Positive Reinforcement Dog Training

Positive reinforcement dog training consists of using positive commands to try to get your dog to do what you want him to do. It is more effective to use positive reinforcement dog training than yelling at a dog and using negative reinforcement. As a matter of fact, negative reinforcement is a total waste of time.

When you get a puppy or a dog, it is up to you to train the dog to behave properly. If you do not train your dog, you are not doing him any favors. It is your responsibility to take care of your dog to make sure that he turns into a good, loyal pet. If your dog is disobedient, he will not be a good pet.

The first thing that you have to understand when you are using positive reinforcement dog training is that yelling and screaming at your dog is not going to be effective when it come to training him. Training your dog is a lot more than just making sure that he doesn't have accidents in the house. It means that he has to sit when you ask him to sit,stay when you ask him to stay, be able to walk on a leash with you and follow simple commands. You always have to have control over your dog.

If you want to have a good, loyal pet who will be a pleasure when you take him out, you are going to have to spend some time training him. There are various techniques that you can use when using positive reinforcement dog training.

There are certain behavior on your part that your dog will respond to when you are trying to train him. One of them is to give your dog treats such as doggie biscuits or other food when he does something that you like. Dogs are social creatures and like two things more than anything else in the world - your approval and food. Because they are pack animals, they seek the approval of the leader of the pack. You have to be assertive and the leader of the pack when it comes to your dog. If you establish yourself in this regard, your dog will do anything to please you.

Giving your dog treats is another way to reinforce positive behavior. The trick to using positive reinforcement dog training techniques is to know what will make your dog happy and most likely to repeat the same behavior again.

The time to start training your dog is when you first bring him home. Even if he is a puppy, it is not too soon to start teaching him appropriate behavior although you cannot expect to have him house broken until he is at least a year old. You can, however, start teaching him right from wrong and into becoming a good and loyal pet. It is never too soon to start teaching your dog the right way to behave. As soon as you get your dog, start training him right away by using positive reinforcement dog training techniques with your puppy or dog.
